How do you know where you are going, if you do not know where you have come from?
The Huntley Township Historical Society is run by volunteers. We receive grants for specific projects or for operating expenses from the Ontario Ministry of Tourism, Culure and Recreation and from the City of Ottawa. Apart from these sources, our main source of funds are donations from individuals and revenue from the sale of our publications. Membership fees not only cover the cost of printing and mailing the monthly newsletter, but also shows community support for the work we do. Thus when we go to ask for funds from a government organization, we can say that we represent a large membership. At the moment our membership is at about 150 members.
All our events and functions are free to the public. Only in exceptional circumstances is a fee charged and this is only to cover the extraordinary costs of that particular event, commonly admission to a function or museum, or the cost of chartering a bus.
